Every year around this time in March, I get a little spring fever. I’m ready to start wearing shorts and tank tops, but Mother Nature is just not having it. She’s hanging on to what last little bits of winter she can just to keep me on my toes ready and waiting for long days at the pool and outdoor parties. It’s killing me, and I have a feeling I’m not the only one. A lot of my brides are busy planning their honeymoons right now, and it has got me thinking a lot about tropical vacations. I’ve compiled a “What to Wear” list for anyone planning (or dreaming about!) a tropical vacation with some of this year’s top trends just to get us all in the spirit!
I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks tropical vacation and immediately thinks “swim.” This year, one of the biggest trends is bold, nautical stripes. I love the look of these blue and pink wide-striped one pieces. Nothing says summer like a nautical stripe, and this year wide stripes is where it’s at! If you’re looking to hit the beach in a summer classic this trend is for you!
I love this high neck swim trend so much that I bought one for myself, and honestly, really want another one. This trend is great for extra support for seaside fun and games, and I personally think this style is flattering on almost any body type. If you’re searching for great looking swimwear that you can have fun in without tugging and tucking all day, check out this cute blue bikini or the switchback swim crop from Albion.
We saw this sexy off-the-shoulder trend explode at last year’s Coachella music festival, and it isn’t going anywhere this year! From a fun and flirty print to sophisticated ruffles, this look can easily transition from your daytime outfit to a chic evening ensemble. The loose style of these tops will keep you cool all day long! These white and floral print options are perfect for a day of living like the locals on your tropical vacation.
Another must-have for a tropical vacation is a simple cotton tee. Let’s be honest, staying cool and sweat-free is very difficult (try completely impossible for this girl) when you start hitting the streets in humid, tropical locations. The sun is bright, the temps are high, and you’ve got a lot to do! It’s a recipe for a sweaty mess. If you are a bride planning your honeymoon, that probably isn’t the sexy look you’re going for. Donning a simple tee in a light cotton fabric is sure to help you stay cool. Also, since they’re thin, roll an extra shirt and toss it in your bag in case you need to refresh your outfit in the middle of the day (make sure to roll instead of fold – wrinkles!). A lot of tees are nice enough to tie up and wear with a cute skirt for a night out, so make a change after a long day in the sun for a cool, relaxed evening look. Get this “SMILE” tee from Etsy or head over to cottonon.com and choose some lightweight tees from their large selection!
I love sunglasses. I always feel an extra dose of mystery and confidence when I put on a pair of chic shades. So, I’ve pulled together some of my favorite glasses. I love the round shape of these 70’s style sunglasses, and I’m a sucker for anything in tortoise shell! These large glasses from Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters keep you on trend while looking sophisticated.
I can’t imagine surviving a day at the beach without a trusty beach tote. How am I going to keep from getting sun burnt if I don’t have my sunscreen in my oversized tote at all times? Where am I going to stash my tourist trap souvenirs? Not to mention a beach towel, swimsuit, cover-up, and book to read by the ocean. You’ve got a limited amount of time to explore, and you don’t want to have to go back and forth to your hotel to grab things or put things away. Pick up this chic Tory Burch bag or this fun and relaxed bag from Etsy to keep you prepared for anything!
Strappy sandals are a necessity for a get-away to a tropical paradise. This year, go for some of this season’s hottest shoes with straps lacing up the ankle. These lace up heels are perfect for a night out. Pair with a flirty dress and enjoy a night to remember!
Now, this next trending shoe I was little unsure about – the flatform. It’s an updated twist on the platform with all the height of a platform but no heel, and I really wasn’t feeling it at first. But then I saw this pair of flatform sandals, and I must say, I’m a believer. These are perfect for exploring local shops and restaurants. You’ll stand out with a shoe that isn’t your average sandal, but still comfortable enough to be in all day!
