How many of you guys remember Anne Hathaway’s nightmare-inducing spray tan in Bride Wars? I remember going to see that movie with my best friend in middle school and being hit with that wedding dreaming fever that so many girls get in their teenage years. But that spray tan is not something you can easily forget. Even now when I see the shot of her walking down the street in a bright yellow dress with an even brighter skin tone, I shudder. So how do you avoid this mishap when you’re a real-life bride trying to get that “pre-wedding glow” Hathaway asks for? I’ve researched and come up with some tips for this week’s how-to post to get the perfect spray tan for your wedding day!
The standard answer: two days prior to your wedding. This way it gives you time to let the tan sink into your skin and gives you time to get used to your tan. My advice? Get a test run (or two) a month before to be sure you know what to ask for and that you like the results. This also gives you time to know the best things to do for your spray tan when it comes to upkeep.
Never go more than a few shades darker than your skin tone. This helps to avoid having a tan that looks artificial. Also, keep your features in mind. If you have light hair and eyes, a dark tan may be too much. If you have dark hair and eyes then feel free to go for a darker tan. Just remember, you want your tan to look natural!
Do I exfoliate?
It is best not to exfoliate for two days following your spray tan. That means it is best to get your mani pedi before your spray tan to avoid the extra exfoliation on your hands and feet.
What do I wear?
Wear loose, dark clothing so as not to mess up your tan on the way home. Also, shoes that don’t have a tight grip on your feet or ankles are best (no booties)!
When can I shower?
The best answer is 18 – 24 hours. However, this may not be reasonable depending on when you get your spray tan. If you get it done on a Friday after work and can stay home the next day then by all means, give your tan some time! If you can’t budget 18 hours without showering then remember that the minimum is 6-8 hours, so be sure to get your spray tan on a day when you don’t have anything planned that evening!
Spray tans can be tricky and scary. Stick to these tips to keep from any faux tan disasters and look perfectly sun-kissed on your big day!
