There’s always a lot going on for the bride as she prepares for a wedding. Bridal showers, lingerie showers, and bachelorette parties are all common bride-centered parties ,and now we’re seeing the bachelorette weekend too! It’s no secret that weddings are pretty bride-focused. We at Perfect Pair Events love when we get a really involved groom! But it’s kind of hard for the men to get as involved when weddings and parties are tailored to the bride. Well, I’ve got something just for men to get them ready and excited for their big day.
The Groom Roast
Some of you may have heard of this since the groom roast has been around for awhile, but I’m actually surprised I don’t see more of these! For those who aren’t familiar, it’s basically a party for the groom and all of his male friends and family members to spend some quality guy-time together. For a groom roast, the groom invites his guy friends to come together, eat, and laugh at his expense. It’s like a manly bridal shower except it includes a set aside time with the groom singled out to be the butt of the light-hearted and uplifting jokes of everyone else in attendance. It’s all done in fun and good humor among friends (hopefully)! I think a groom roast is important because it can include all of your guy friends, not just the men from your wedding party. Often the bachelor party includes the groomsmen and a select few close friends who are of the appropriate age. This is a great way to include your cousins, old college buddies, and older men and younger boys that are important to you. I also think it’s a great way to let the guys in your life get to know one another before the bachelor party and your wedding. The most fun weddings are always the ones where a lot of the guests are comfortable with one another. What better way to get your guys acquainted than with food and jokes!
So what do you do? Start with a man’s menu. Have a barbecue, grill out steaks, have beer and wings, whatever you and your friends would enjoy the most! Let the guys know ahead of time that this is a roast so they can prepare their funniest jokes, craziest stories, and kindest tributes. Also, think about something fun for the guys to enjoy at your roast – skeet shooting, corn hole, football, poker, get creative!
Remember, this is a man’s version of a shower, so ask for gifts! This is a great way for the groom to be included by getting things on his wish list for his life with his new bride. The groom roast is a perfect time for the groom to ask for things like a drill or nice shaving kit he may not normally buy himself or he may not get as a regular wedding present.
